I spoke with an individual who was diagnosed with a severe incapacitating disease. Of course, his lifestyle changed. He dealt with pain and discomfort daily.
One day he spoke of the book of Ecclesiastes quoting Solomon, “Everything is meaningless. Everything is vain.” “It says so in the Bible,” he said. “So what's the use. Why should I bother with this God stuff? Why should I even bother trying at life?”
Unfortunately, he needed to look a bit closer at what the book of Ecclesiastes was really saying. Yes, we see Solomon in despair, in a general state of depression. In essence he was saying… Like this man, “What's the use?”
But we also can see the lifestyle that brought Solomon to this point, to this attitude about life. In Ecclesiastes 1:8-11 he says, “I denied myself nothing my eyes desire. I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor. Yet, when I survive all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” Solomon simply placed his eyes on things other than God. Work, lust of the flesh, desires of our hearts.
Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have life more abundantly.” The Word tells us, “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find.”
No!… Life is not meaningless. Life is not vain. Only a lifestyle apart from God's Word can reap these fruits. In Revelations 3:20 Jesus says,” Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If ANY man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with Me.”
The invitation is His to give.
The decision is ours… to receive… MEANINGFUL LIFE!!!
